From the first column to a complete frame

What will you do as a steel erector?

You work with an erection team on steel structures for halls and buildings. The components come together on site. The tasks below explain the trade; the specific duties are agreed to suit the assignment and your experience.

Prepare drawings and components

Review the erection drawing and work sequence with the supervisor. Check piece marks, dimensions and connection details and organise the specified fixings. Make sure the required components are available and report missing or damaged parts before assembly begins.

Position columns, beams and roof frames

Work with the erection team to assemble the structural steel frame. Help guide components into position and fit them according to the erection plan. Coordinate with the designated lifting team; slinging loads and directing lifts are tasks for people who are trained and appointed to carry them out.

Align the frame and check dimensions

Use the agreed measuring equipment to check the position of columns and beams. Pay attention to plumb, levels and connection dimensions and help align the frame. If a component does not fit or a support differs from the drawing, raise it with the supervisor before making changes.

Install bolted connections and bracing

Use the specified bolts, nuts and washers and check that the connection fits correctly. Tightening and any preloading follow the procedure for that connection. Purlins and wind bracing may also be part of your work. Temporary stability measures remain in place until their removal is authorised.

Carry out related assembly work

Depending on the assignment and your experience, you may install secondary steelwork, stairs or platforms. Experience with roof sheets, wall cladding or sandwich panels is also relevant. We agree which tasks belong to your role and the skills needed for them before you start.

Inspect the work and hand it over

Check the completed assembly, report missing fixings and identify damage to protective coatings. Consider the work that follows and leave your tools and work area in order. Discuss any deviations or outstanding items with the supervisor so the team can continue with clear information.

THE TRADE ON SITE

A strong structure. One connection at a time.

Steel erection brings precision and teamwork together. You see a building take shape while keeping track of what has already been done and what comes next.

From drawing to structure

Piece marks, connection details and dimensions show where each component belongs. Follow the agreed sequence and ask when a detail is unclear.

Working with the lifting team

Keep your own task and the people around you in view. Clear signals, an agreed work area and defined responsibilities are part of each stage of assembly.

Stability throughout erection

A partly assembled frame needs the bracing and support provided for in the plan. Follow the erection method and have changes or removal of temporary measures assessed first.

Your practical skills matter

What experience do you bring?

Tell us about the structures you have worked on. Have you aligned steelwork, installed bolted connections or fitted cladding? We want to hear which drawings and tools you use and how you coordinate with colleagues during assembly.

We focus on practical skills. Required experience, languages, certificates and available tools are discussed for the specific assignment.

Questions about steel erection work

About the work, your experience and the arrangements before you start.

Call us
What does a steel erector do?

A steel erector assembles structural steelwork at the project site. Components can include columns, beams, roof frames, purlins and bracing. Reading drawings, aligning steelwork, making bolted connections and coordinating with the erection team are important parts of the role.

What types of structures will I work on?

This role focuses on steel frames for halls and buildings. Assembly of stairs, platforms or other steel components may also be involved. We discuss the specific structure, project, work location and duties when preparing your assignment.

Does a steel erector also need to weld?

Welding experience can be useful, but this profile focuses on positioning, aligning and connecting structural components. You carry out welding only when it is part of the assignment and your experience and any required qualifications are suitable. Tell us which welding processes you know.

Does the role include roof and wall cladding?

It can be an additional part of the job, for example fitting roof sheets, wall cladding or sandwich panels. Experience in this area is welcome. You do not need to know every cladding system for every assignment; we discuss which tasks match your skills beforehand.

Will I work at height and operate an access platform?

Steel erection can involve work at height. We discuss your experience, the working method and the instruction or training required. Operating a mobile elevating work platform and slinging or directing loads are separately assigned tasks. You carry them out only with the appropriate preparation and site authorisation.

How much does a steel erector earn in the Netherlands?

Pay, hours, working times and any allowances are discussed for the specific assignment. Your experience and duties are relevant. Ask about travel time, transport and any accommodation costs as well. You receive the arrangements before deciding whether to start.

Which languages, certificates or driving licences do I need?

Requirements depend on the assignment. You must understand instructions and communicate safely. Tell us about certificates such as VCA and any driving licences you hold. We confirm requirements, travel arrangements, tools and protective equipment before you start.

Can I apply from outside the Netherlands?

Yes. Tell us where you currently live and when you are available. You can also contact us in Polish or Portuguese through the relevant language page. Communication requirements at the workplace are discussed separately.

Is accommodation or transport to work available?

We discuss the support available for your assignment and circumstances. Availability, arrangements and any costs must be agreed beforehand. Travel to the Netherlands only once your work and practical arrangements are clear.

Can I apply without a CV?

Yes. Your name, phone number and answers about your experience are enough for an initial conversation. Email and a CV are optional. You can also call first to discuss whether your skills fit the work.

You know your trade. Let us get to know you.
