From drawing to wooden element

What will you do as a workshop carpenter?

You work indoors on timber components and assemblies, which may be bespoke pieces or production runs. We discuss the products, machines and duties beforehand; not every assignment includes all the tasks below.

Prepare drawings and materials

Read the workshop drawing, dimensions and parts list. Gather the timber or sheet material for the order, check for visible defects and agree the sequence with colleagues. Ask about unclear dimensions before machining material.

Machine timber to size

Depending on your experience, cut, drill, plane or rout components using the appropriate tools. Follow workshop instructions and check dimensions and fit throughout the work. Use only machinery you have been instructed to operate; CNC experience is not a general requirement.

Assemble wooden components

Build assemblies such as timber frames, windows, doors or other joinery elements. Use joints, adhesives, clamps and fixings as specified in the drawing and instructions. The products and balance between machining and assembly depend on the assignment.

Check dimensions and finish

Check that assemblies are square, dimensions are correct and joints fit properly. Where required, sand surfaces or carry out minor finishing work. Report deviations so the product can move correctly to the next production stage.

Hand over components and maintain the work area

Label or sort components for the next operation and protect them from damage. Keep tools, benches and walkways tidy. Work with colleagues on larger elements and follow the arrangements for handling and lifting.

Your practical skills matter

What experience do you bring?

Tell us about the timber, sheet materials and joints you have worked with. We want to know whether you mainly make components independently, work in an assembly team or have experience with both.

We focus on practical skills. Required experience, languages, certificates and available tools are discussed for the specific assignment.

Questions about workshop carpenter jobs

About the work, your experience and the arrangements before you start.

Call us
What does a workshop carpenter or bench joiner do?

The role involves machining and assembling timber components in a workshop: cutting to size, preparing joints, building assemblies and checking dimensions. We discuss the specific products for each assignment.

Is this factory work or site carpentry?

This recruitment page focuses on work in a workshop or joinery factory, making and assembling components. Installation on a construction site has a different task mix. Any site duties are discussed explicitly before you accept a proposal.

Do I need CNC woodworking experience?

No, CNC experience is not a general requirement for this profile. Tell us which hand tools and machines you know. Experience and instruction for CNC or specialist machinery are considered separately for the workplace.

Is cabinet-making or wood-machining experience relevant?

It can be relevant through drawing interpretation, measuring, joints or assembly. It is not an automatic match. We compare the tasks you have performed with the joinery work the client needs.

What does a workshop carpenter earn in the Netherlands?

There is no single confirmed pay rate for all assignments on this page. Pay, hours, allowances and other terms are discussed before you decide. Your experience and the specific role matter; also ask about accommodation and transport costs.

Must I be able to make timber window frames?

Experience with timber frames, windows or doors is relevant, but products vary between workshops. Explain whether you mainly machine, assemble or finish components so we can discuss suitable duties.

Which languages, certificates or driving licences do I need?

Requirements depend on the assignment. You must understand instructions and communicate safely. Tell us about certificates such as VCA and any driving licences you hold. We confirm requirements, travel arrangements, tools and protective equipment before you start.

Can I apply from outside the Netherlands?

Yes. Tell us where you currently live and when you are available. You can also contact us in Polish or Portuguese through the relevant language page. Communication requirements at the workplace are discussed separately.

Is accommodation or transport to work available?

We discuss the support available for your assignment and circumstances. Availability, arrangements and any costs must be agreed beforehand. Travel to the Netherlands only once your work and practical arrangements are clear.

Can I apply without a CV?

Yes. Your name, phone number and answers about your experience are enough for an initial conversation. Email and a CV are optional. You can also call first to discuss whether your skills fit the work.

You know your trade. Let us get to know you.
