Recycling and waste collection share a purpose: collecting materials and directing them into the right process. Working on a sorting operation is nevertheless different from joining a collection route. This sector provides guides for recycling workers and waste collection loaders, explaining their own workplaces and duties.
Recycling involves recognising, separating and moving material streams according to site instructions. As a collection loader, you work with the driver along a route, paying attention to containers, surroundings and collection progress. Both types of work depend on awareness, clear communication and reporting anything unusual.
Describe the materials, sorting lines or collection equipment you know. Explain whether you mainly sorted by hand, helped move materials or worked on a collection route. Discuss outdoor work, physical demands and availability. Instructions for machinery, traffic and unfamiliar materials belong to the workplace; we review the specific duties with you beforehand.
